Sacramento’s Jewish community is more spread out than ever and many new Jews are moving to the region without social ties. The challenge requires a committed group to generate a center of gravity that binds us beyond the individual synagogue to which we might belong while being effective in cultivating shared and relevant experiences for the growing unaffiliated.

NextDor, Federation’s Young Adult Division, has met this challenge by presenting monthly opportunities for young Jewish adults to thread Jewish culture, language, socializing, spirituality, tikkun olam, and other elements back into their lives or, in some cases, for the first time.

Each month you can meet young professional Jews from around the region in various settings— from low-key, purely social Chappy Hours to very intimate, highly spiritual, lay-led Shabbats with SacraMinyan. Additionally, several small and large gatherings are organized throughout the year according to the Jewish holidays. NextDor engages in social welfare through tikkun olam activities, introduces people casually to various synagogues through our rotating Synagogue Showcase, and create teams for casual sports through the local XOSO leagues. At NextDor, there’s room for your ideas and energy too!

NextDor strives to be the central gathering point for information about Jewish life opportunities anywhere in the region so that anyone who wishes to know who’s doing what doesn’t need a compass to navigate where and when but simply has an easy path to check in whenever desired.

That’s the job and the vision of the Jewish Federation of the Sacramento Region and our evolving group of young adults, 23-45. NextDor is the door opening to Jewish relevance.
